Postgraduate Project 2010 by Architect Andri Klausen. Pratt Institute. www.andriklausen.com The LINK creates a multilayered transportation system connecting the rural Chiba Prefecture with the dense urban Tokyo City, whilst creating a new exciting way of living on water in Tokyo Bay. The city becomes a hub for transportation in the greater Tokyo area creating a closed loop around the bay by expanding the existing monorail system and proposing a new seaport and a new international airport competitive to the world’s largest airports [ATL, PEK, LHR] to solve Tokyo’s airport expansion issues. A parallel programmatic scalar and characteristic shift is proposed as opposed to a nodal system with a definite city centre. This shortens travel spans between live, work and play, creating close community networks and a healthier way of living. Due to the geographic nature of the location, in a windy bay with strong ocean currents, a clean and stable energy system is created by the use of water and wind turbines - powering the cities whole public transportation network resulting in a clean and healthy city. |
